Musical Transformers: Variations on a Theme

This season's Free Family Concert will be an interactive event that will be entertaining for all ages. Stephanie and Jeffrey will be joined by Carmit Zori and Suzanne Beia, violinists, Yura Lee, violist, and two members from the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, Anthony Ross, cellist, and Burt Hara, clarinetist. Together with the audience, they will explore the technique of theme and variations, using music by Brahms, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and others. Just as a toy Transformer might change into a number of different shapes for different purposes, or a writer might express a single idea in several different ways, composers often write themes that they ornament, decorate, and otherwise transform for different musical ends.

The 320 seats in The Playhouse will be available on a first-come first-served basis. We thank CUNA Mutual Group, Murphy Desmond, Lawyers, Pat Powers and Thomas Wolfe, and Overture Center for helping us present this special chamber music program.
